A Little of This and a Little of That

I was a little discouraged to see this weeks theme challenge and almost did not participate.  I just did not have any of the the stamp sets that stood out in my mind as perfect options to incorporate in completing this challenge.  I decided, last minute, to look outside the box and come up with an entry.

Starting with Pinterest, I focused on elements other than rides or tents from images of amusement park themed cards.  With a half dozen images that stood out, I began to form an idea and got to work!

I definitely wanted to start with stripes and a card that had a Art Deco vibe.  One of the Timeless Tags dies immediately popped into by head.  I also decided to include a banner, which did not need a specific stamp set to create.  Especially after looking through my own stamp stash and finding nothing that fit the bill.  Next, a clear sky with billowing clouds offered an addition that would surround a perfect day in which to visit an amusement park.

The base of my card starts with a Thick Whisper White top folding 4 1/4 X 11" piece of cardstock.  I then adhered a number of 3/4" strips of cardstock in Whisper White and So Saffron diagonally to a thin 4 1/4 X 5 1/2 Whisper White Cardstock base.

Layering the top of the stripe panel, a sky image included in the Carried Away Designer Series Paper (DSP) is accented with a few popped up Whisper White die cut clouds from the Umbrella Weather Framelits.

A Thin strip of Basic Gray Cardstock serves as a distinct division between the Clouds and the 3/4" Stripes.  An additional striped panel cut from Project Life Cards & Labels Framelits features DSP from the Succulent Garden Pack layers a brighter Daffodil Delight die cut from the largest die found in the Lots of Labels Framelits.

The Art Deco addition was created using Timeless Tags Thinlits, found in the Occasions Catalog, in Mint Macaron, Daffodil Delight, and framed with Basic Gray.  Using two of those colors along with Watermelon Wonder, a banner diagonally crosses the card front cut form the tips of a Stars Framelit and strung with Crushed Curry Bakers Twine.

Lastly, the small fishtail die from the Window Box Thinlits set formed the Whisper White base layer of the sentiment ensemble, which popped up the So Saffron 3/4" strip finished with fishtail cuts at each end and stamped with a selection from Suite Sentiments in Memento Black.

Even though, I was not feeling my best today, I am glad I sat down to create an entry for the Global Design Project this week.

I hope you enjoyed my project and will join me again by signing up as a subscriber to my blog!

Global Design Project 078/ Sketch Challenge

Oh So Succulent Bundle
Global Design Project 078

I am finally getting aroung to uploading this weeks Global Design Challenge.  I am blown away by the wonderful projects created this week!  You can check them out too by clicking on the image below.

I had so many ideas swarming through my head it was difficult to stick to one thing.  I compare it to looking through the images on Pinterest and having so many ideas bombard at once it becomes hard to just sit down and make something!  I did, however, do just that, sit down and put a project together to upload this week!

Intially, I was planning on a gradient blended background, but instead, desided to use Stampin' Up!'s Hearts Decorative Mask.

I blended the hearts using the Whisper White Stampin' Pad on Basic Gray Cardstock.  Next, I cut down the Gray panel and layered it on a piece of Whisper White Cardstock.

To create a transiton between those two layers, I used my Stampin' Trimmer to cut out a thin strip of Sweet Sugarplum dots from the Succulent Garden Designer Series Paper pack.

I then cut that entire panel down, popping it up and creating a white border with my Thick Whisper White Card Base.

Two Stitched Shaped Circles created the foundation for my focal image.  On the larger Circle, I stamped the Moroccan Nights medallion image in the Black Ombre Stampin' Pad.

Three layering images from the Oh So Succulent Stamp set where stamped in Perfect Plum, Rich Razzleberry, and Mint Macaron.

On top of each blossom I used the outline stamp again in Whisper White, using my fingers to smudge or blend the pigment over the flowers.  Two of the plants were adhered on top of the circles and dimensionals popped up the third.

The sentiment, again in Basic Gray, was die cut from the Mini Treat Bag Thinlits and layered three times for some extra dimension and adhered offset and below the succulents.

Without a good supply of ribbon or twine, I used the bow die in the Mini Treat Bag Thinlits set and cut two bows, using the Sweet Sugarplum dots DSP and Basic Gray, which I layered .  A little glossy accent helped give the bow a little extra interest.

Finally, I added a few clear sequins from the Metallics Sequin Assortment to finish the card.

Baker's Dozen Thank You Card Event #6 Post Event

Special Reason Bundle
Wrapping Up the Baker's Dozen Thank You Card Event

What a great time we had completing 13 Thank You cards!  Although, we needed an extra day to finish all the planned card projects, it was a wonderful time in the company of those who attended.

Not only did we have fantastic and fun conversation around the craft tables, we enjoyed a scrumptious lunch together.  On the menu was Italian Wedding soup, a colorful salad bar, homemade baguettes fashioned by my talented husband, and a traditional Icelandic whipped cream cake with a personal little twist.

Truly a great time!

Our last card, completing the set of thirteen, used the Special Reason Bundle. This card utilized a few techniques including heat embossing and first and second generational stamping using Perfect Plum ink and cardstock.

As always, Thick White Cardstock served as the vertically folded A2 card base.
Adhered to the card base, a 5 1/2 X 4 1/4 panel of Perfect Plum framed a Basic Black panel, which framed the Whisper White cardstock.  On this layer, Delicate Details was heat embossed in white.

On top of the embossing, using a combination of stamps from the Touches of Texture and Gorgeous Grunge sets, a layering of various sized splatters covered the Whisper White Cardstock in Memento Black and Perfect Plum.

Two circles, of different sizes, placed one below the other and slightly overlapping in Basic Black and Whisper White Cardstocks, served as a backdrop to the four floral images.

Two of the blossoms from the Special Reason Stamp Set where heat embossed in clear and white on Perfect Plum Cardstock and the other two displayed first and second generational stamping in Perfect Plum ink on Whisper White Cardstock.  The clear and white embossed flower and the Perfect Plum first generational stamped image was popped up with dimensionals.

Lastly, adding a little more monochromatic interest placed opposite the black and white cirlces, clusters of leaves from the Rose Garden Thinlits and the May Flowers Framelits sets where each die cut twice and layered on top of one another to add interest, balance, and more dimension.

Breaking a rule, an even number of images created this card, but they were grouped in odd numbers and provided a number of eye pleasing visual triangles. Also, the repeated black and white color scheme created balance and flow.

I hope you enjoyed the card designs making up the Baker's Dozen Thank You Card Event!

Global Design Project #GDP077 Color Challenge

Penned & Painted Stamp Set
Color Challenge
Thanks for visting!

Click on the image below to see all the projects from the #GDP077 Color Challenge.

Here in Northern Colorado, winter has lost its cold and bitter sting.  Instead of a normal winter, it seems more like Spring! However, Spring is just around the corner.

With Spring on its way, I have notices a shift in projects coming from the papercrafting community. All may favorite social media sites are featuring a collection of softer pastels and all the colors that are associated with the Easter Season. I know that I have been pulling out my Subtles Classic Stampin' Pads and a few of my favorite 2015-2017 ink pads (I will sorely miss those colors) more and more these days!

Today, I will be showcasing my design for the color challenge.

I utilized 2nd generational stamping to show the softer side of the challenge colors. I chose to use the Penned and Painted stamp set, one of my favorites! I am such a floral girl! I also love to watercolor and so enjoy the loose look of the images in this set!

I then stamped over the base images with the next layered stamps to showcase the full intensity of Bermuda Bay and Peekaboo Peach in the floral clusters, adding Early Espresso to the center of each flower.

I covered the entire panel with a sheet of Vellum, lined up the outline stamp of the large floral image, and heat embossed in Copper, my free chose. I cut out a rectangle from the center of the vellum cardstock to frame the colored panel.

The sentiment was also stamped in VersaMark, heat embossed in copper on a Bermuda Bay fishtailed banner, and fixed the the bottom, right side of the card. I went back and forth with the embellishments I wanted to use and decided to use the butterflies shown.

On watercolor paper, I did a watercolor wash mixing Bermuda Bay and Peekaboo Peach. To speed up the drying process, I used my heat tool.  Once dry, I used the Timeless Tags Thinlit Die of the flying butterflies to cut out the soft small images. Once adhered to the card, I used my Clear Wink of Stella Glitter Brush to add a little glimmer and the Fine-Tip Glue Pen to add a little more interest to the butterflies. Lastly, I tied a small bow across the top of the card.

I hope you enjoyed my project and it provided a little glimpse of Spring for you wherever you are!

Baker's Dozen Thank You Card Event #5 Stampin' Up! Designer Series Paper

Thank You & Designer Series Paper
Moroccan Designer Series Paper

Designer Series Paper (DSP) is one of Stampin' Up!'s staples.  Before signing up as an Independent demonstrator, I rarely used any printed paper.  I have always enjoyed creating my own one of kind background designs and still do. However, I am slowly changing and have started incorporating DSP regularly into my projects.

Stampin' Up!'s amazing selection of DSP creates another perfectly coordinated product that enriches the card design process and does not limit creativity, but enhances it.

The two cards I created here, represent my conception of a traditional Stampin' Up! design.  These projects also are perfect cards for the papercrafter with limited supplies and/or an example of cards that are simple to create in a jiffy!

Some of the basic supplies needed includes the DSP, coordinating card stock and Stampin' Pad, a paper trimmer, a favorite stamp set or two, and an adhesive. In addition, with one package of DSP and the few other supplies listed, you can create a multitude of cards with different looks that still coordinate!

From their assorted cardstock, Classic Stampin' pads and ink refills, ribbon and trim, markers, and embellishments, Stampin' Up! makes color coordination so easy!

Moroccan Designer Series Paper inspired the two featured cards.  I pulled out colors of cardstock from the colors in the DSP and used black cardstock to ground the layers. Next, using the Moroccan Nights stamp set, I stamped the large medallion using Ombre Stampin' Pads and heat embossed the large 'Thank You So, So Much'. The addition of a few sequins, layered fish tail banners, and a staple embellish the final simple projects.

Each set of DSP has a different design and color scheme, making the inspiration for a new card easy and fun!  Pickup a package of DSP today, add a little bit of your own inspriation, and create something!

Baker's Dozen Card Event #4 Joseph's Coat Technique

 JOSEPH'S COAT TECHNIQU
Paisleys and Posies Stamp Set

The Joseph's Coat Technique is a fun technique that displays a silhouette of color against a dark background.  The base layer of this card received a healthy dose of splatter from a paint brush loaded with Memento Black Ink.

Next the Emerald Envy card stock, layering the splattered base, was stamped with selections from the Paisleys and Posies Stamp Set in VersaMark to add some tone on tone interest.  The Joseph's Coat panel was blended with Blushing Bride, Mint Macaron, and So Saffron in no particular order.

I treated that layer with an Embossing Buddy and used the same stamps again in VersaMark, but this time, I used Clear Stampin' Emboss Powder and heat set the entire panel.

Now for the fun part!  I used a blending tool to cover the panel with Memento Black until the coverage was fairly dark and even.  Then, I used a clean cloth to wipe off any of the black ink that covered the embossed areas displaying the fun colorful pattern below.

'Thanks' was stamped on a Whisper White Project Life Label and, adding some dimension, adjacent to the sentiment, a layered medallion in the same colors used on the blended Joseph's panel was placed.  'Your're the Best' stamped at the the bottom of the card finished the project.

Everyone needs to give this technique a try.  Any darker color would have worked with the final top layered blending.  Elegant Eggplant or Red Rose or Basic Gray or...would have been fun options on this card too!

Baker's Dozen Card Event Card Set #3

Coloring Backgrounds
Creating Your Own Coloring Canvas

Currently, coloring is all the rage for so many crafters!  It is so easy to use Stampin' Up! Designer Series Paper found in the Sale-A-Bration Catalog to create a background that you can color yourself or give to someone special you know who loves to color!  Another option is using or creating a cluster image (any outlined image will work) on an acrylic block and stamp multiple images in Archival Basic Black ink and Voila--an instant coloring scene!

Create a box of thank you cards and add a package of Stampin' Up! Markers or Watercoloring Pencils and you have a fun and interactive gift!  Add a set of Blender Pens with the Watercoloring Pencils to create another look!

Birthday Blooms in the Annual Catalog is a perfect floral cluster stamp to create a black on white background and would look beautiful when colored.  Here a Bermuda Bay Stitched Circle offers a pop of color and a perfect backdrop to the Whisper White Stitched circle containing the thank you so much sentiment from the Endless Thanks stamp set!  Adding even more interest and contrast is the fussy cut watercolor bloom painted in Watermelon Wonder, Daffodil Delight, and Old Olive.

Add a simple change in color like Daffodil Delight or another favorite Classic Cardstock and create a unique set that displays your favorite color schemes.

Sale-A-Bration is still going on and the Inside The Lines Designer Series Paper provides four designs to choose from to create an easy option for this card without the extra stamping!  How fun!

Baker's Dozen Card Event #2 Inlay Technique

Inlay Technique
Giving Thanks with the Botanical Builder Dies

Day two has a special project in store!  Instead of die cutting the thanks sentiment and adhering it to the top of the Soft Sky Layering Circle, I die cut the sentiment into the circle and placed the Soft Suede thanks into the negative space.  It takes a little bit more work, but really adds interest!

A Thick Whisper White top folding card creates the base of this card.  Next, Shimmery White Cardstock provides the perfect surface to paint a light watercolor wash in Blushing Bride offering a contrast of color, softening the background.  The other layered elements includes a shortened fishtail banner from the Banners Framelits and two die cuts from the Layering Circles Framelits with the thanks inlaid within the top circle.

To add a little balanced beauty and whimsy, embellishments include a gold embossed bee from the Dragonfly Bundle, flowers from the Botanical Builder Dies in Whisper White, Blushing Bride, and a gold script from the the Neurtrals Designer Series Paper.  A few little Pearl Basic Jewels added to the center of each flower finishes the card along with a white embossed for your kindness.

I love the color scheme of this card!  These pastels have been my go to lately when creating in my studio!  This inlay technique was inspired by the awesome Jennifer McGuire! Click on her name to view the video to try it out yourself!

Thanks for joining me for day two of the Baker's Dozen Thank You Card Event!

Baker's Dozen Card Event Card Set #1

Clean and Simple Designs with Sale-A-Bration

So Very Much & Avant Garden

Welcome to day one of five in which you will see the card designs for the upcoming Baker's Dozen Card Event.  A clean and simple design was used to create a set of five card using two stamp sets from the Sale-A-Bration Catalog.

While I love the Hey, Chick Stamp Set, So Very Much and Avant Garden are my two favorite in this years Sale-A-Bration Catalog.  The beautiful font used in the Thank You stamp is large and elegant.  It is a fabulous stand alone stamp.

Initially, I stamped Black Versafine ink on an A-2 size Thick Whisper White horizontal folding card and then heat embossed the sentiment with clear Stampin' Emboss Powder.  However, on the bottom card, I used VersaMark and heat embossed with Gold Stampin' Emboss Powder.  Next, I used the variety of stamps in Avant Garden to create delicate backgrounds in various color schemes. some of which, I used second generaltional stamping.  One card even includes some of the suggested colors in the Sale-A-Bration Catalog.  Lastly, I added and heat embossed a few of the other sentiments included in the So Very Much Stamp Set. In hindsight, I could of stamped these earlier when stamping the Thank You.

Each of these cards takes no time to make and in a pinch they make the perfect combination for making a Thank You card on the fly, as well as a lovely set to give as a gift! Avant Garden and So Very Much is a must for everyone's stamp stash!

Sale-A-Bration goes on through March 31, so there is still time to earn these two versatile stamp sets.  You can earn an Sale-A-Bration item free with a minimum $50.00 Stampin' Up! purchase.  Sweet!  In Addition, the Sale-A-Bration Catalog makes creating the projects in the catalog easy by listing the materials used, which easily places a purchase in the range of earning your favorite free item or items.  Click on the Sale-A-Bration catalog link to see all the fabulous free offerings and place an order on my Online store!

You can stretch your dollar by signing up to become part of my team as a business opportunity or as a hobby enthusiast and receive a discount as a new Stampin' Up! Demonstrator!

I hope to see you this weekend at the Baker's Dozen Thank You Card Event!
