I am joining the Global Design Project with a new sketch challenge. This project went through a few changes before ending with the shaker card you see above. 

I will share the process in a minute, but I wanted to say how excited I am with the new 2017-2018 Stampin' Up! Catalog! While I hooped and hollered about what I was losing in too many past blog posts, I did not take into account what I would be receiving in return! Wow! The new catalog is amazing! Part of my preorder has arrived and I am loving all the interesting and creative new products! 

With that, I can jump into this weeks Global Design Project...

I first thought I would make the background in the sketch the focal point and came up with this card...

A little bit of painters tape and some blending of Calypso Coral, Bermuda Bay, and Pacific Point offered what turned out to be a Retro card. I could see this design decorating an 80's Skating Rink.

I blended the top colors on Whisper White Cardstock a bit darker on the top than the bottom for a little more interest. 

I initially planned to create a card with a clear center using a window sheet, which is located under the sentiment. I had an issue and ended up having to cut down the entire front panel and instead, attached it to a panel of Very Vanilla cardstock. I will give my original plan another go later. 

The sentiment, from the Window Shopping Stamp Set, was heat embossed using White Embossing Powder on Black Cardstock.  The focal panel was then adhered on an A2 sized panel of Pacific Point, which I embossed with the Seaside Embossing Folder.

I could have uploaded this card to this weeks challenge, but decided that I did not use the inspiration piece I had in mind well.

Inspiration Vase

So, I started again...

My second card pulled out the design out of the vase more completely, but then then I smudged the black splatter by mistake and that bothered me, but I completed the card and decided to give it another try.

This card was also blended using the same colors above. To the blended panel, I used Memento Black reinker and a paint brush to add the splatter. I also spritzed the blended panel with water and dabbed with a papertowel to cover up the water I accidently got on my project.

I did not want to lose too much of the background (even though

it did not end up exaxtly as planned), so  I cut a piece of Vellum down and White heat embossed an image from the very cool and new Lovely Inside & Out Stamp Set.

Popping up the the sentiment form the same stamp set finished the card front. 

I also tried something on the inside, which I did not like and ended up blending a negative image die cut form the largest circle from the Layered Circle Framelits.

What developed next, ended up being a Step It Up card... 

The uploaded photos do not do justice to the colors in any of the images above. They are more vibrant than the photos display.

The final project, went through a few changes and ended as a shaker card! I did cut the hugs from the Lovely Words Thinlits and added it to the Metallic Sequin Assortment, which I selected only the white, black, and clear circle shapes. 

What is kind of cool, the die cut hugs and sequins get hung up on the heat embossed Vellum panel; and while I can shake them loose, they stay put even when standing up!

The frame was initially cut out of Whisper White Cardstock with the Layered Square Framelits, but I did not like the white. Next, I used my Pacific Point Classic Stampin' Pad to change the color, but I did not like that any better. Finally, I used a Memento Black Ink Pad and transformed the frame for a third time!

I had an image in my head, but it took more than one try to express my idea on paper, which took a few different turns during the process. Ultimately, I still want to return to the Retro Window card idea and see the final project still in my head! In the end, I did not destroy the not just right cards, but finished them anyway.
