Retiring! Retiring! Retiring! Assorted Designer Series Paper

#loveitchopit

Kylie Bertucci, number one Independent Stampin' Up! demonstrator in Australia, has started a movement with the iconic hashtag above! If you are anything like me, this has been an issue for you too!

I started my papercrafting love affair with stamping out my own backgrounds. It was not until joining Stampin' Up! that I began my own journey with incorporating Stampin' Up!'s fantastic Designer Series Paper options into my designs. However, it has been a slow moving transition and I currently have quite a bit of soon to be retired DSP.

Good News! I plan on attending a couple of local craft fairs this year and have started to create card sets with all that DSP!

I plan of creating sets of 3 to 4 cards, which I will package in clear stationery boxes. You can see a few I already have together below.  I plan on creating a decorative band and a tag for each of them too!

They will also make great gifts if I need a last minute idea for a friend, customer, or other someone special! I could add a gift certificate or Starbucks card and be golden with a gift almost anyone would appreciate and, my I dare say, LOVE!

Sorry for the glare

So...do not despair if you still have a ton of retiring DSP! Check out some of my examples.

I have created a gift package of cards with the Succulent Garden Designer Series Paper using the Swirly Bird Stamp Set, Swirly Scribbles Thinlits Dies, Stitched Shapes Framelits, Bunch of Banners Framelits, and Banners for you Stamp Set.

I used Watercolor Paper and an Aqua Brush to create a watercolor wash with Melon Mambo and Daffodil Delight for the banner.  As my project evolved, I decided to use White Embossing Powder and my Heat Tool for the "Thank You" sentiment.

In hindsight, I would have stamped first and then die cut, but as I mentioned, the project evolved as it went. In the end, I did not mind a little bit of wonky heat embossed placement.

I used the same variety of cardstock and Classic Stampin' Pads throughout each card design, but varied the display and placement in each card.

All of the cards were inspired by the DSP and each 12 X 12 Sheet created six cards even though only four are highlighted here.

Do you have a favorite combination above? The second one is my favorite!

The Remarkable InkBig Blog Hop

The Remarkable Ink Big Blog Hop
Eastern Medallion Thinlit Dies

Welcome and I hope you are enjoying the Remarkable Ink Big Blog Hop! I have been doing a little comparison investigating and I am excited to share what I discovered!

(I think I will recreate this card using Bermuda Bay, Daffodil Delight, and Pacific Point...or Old Olive!  What do you think?)

One thing I try to do when getting a new Stampin' Up! Stamp Set is to brainstorm ideas that are outside of what I see immediately in front of me. Sometimes, the ideas that burst forth are from other products I have worked with in the past or from other projects inspired from other designers.

While that is certainly not always the circumstance, that is the case with the featured card!

My short papercrafting background spurs from a multitude of sources.  While Stampin' Up! is a fabulous company, I often chuckle to myself when I hear other Demonstrators say Stampin' Up! came up with this never seen before concept...Not trying to disparage any new innovative crafting coming from Stampin' Up!; but there is a huge papercrafting market and if our eyes are only on Stampin' Up!, we may be not aware of the immense diversity in the market.

I have mentioned all of that to say, the inspired card project I am featuring on today's Blog Hop is from a card created by the talented Kristina Werner in which she used Ranger Distressed Inks and a die set called Partial Cut Flowers from Simon Says Stamp. Link to the video by clicking on Kristina's name above.

Before I share some of my comparisons below, I would like to add how much I love Stampin' Up! for the amazing products, shared crafting community, and much, much more of what this cherished company brings!

The first photo below is a side by side comparison of Classic Stampin' Ink Pads versus Ranger Distressed Ink using Kristina's smooshing technique.

Before joining Stampin' Up! I regularly used Ranger's Distress Watercolor Cardstock. Above, I used Distressed Ink on Ranger's Watercolor Cardstock on the left and Classic Stampin' Pads and Stampin' Up! Watercolor Paper on the right.

I found I got very similar results with the exception of Stampin' Up! Watercolor Paper absorbing more of the pigment infused water in areas. This did not happen to the same degree with the Ranger Distressed Watercolor Cardstock.

I do believe the faster absorption rate of Stampin' Up! Watercolor Paper added great dimension and increased interest. The colors I used can be seen below.

I know that Watermelon Wonder will no longer be available for purchase soon, but I think Calypso Coral would be a great substitution for a similar color combination.

Here again are two comparisons of my finished cards. On the left, Classic Stampin' Pads were used and Distressed Inks on the right. While it would be impossible to duplicate the same card twice using Kristina's (Technique's Originator Unknown!) technique, I had similar results.

Here you can see how versatile Stampin' Up! Inks can be to complete projects that use other products one might come across out there on the World Wide Web!

In addition, I would like to highlight the embellishments used on the "You Are My Sunshine" card. They will be available with an amazing new assortment of other embellishments that will undoubtedly have to become part of your crafting stash! The center of the flowers are called Faceted Gems and they are available in gold and clear on page 197 of the new and inspiring "Creativity Your Way Annual Catalog 2017-2018!" Request a catalog today!

Here is a closer look of the second project using the Distressed inks with the Eastern Medallion and Sunshine Wishes Thinlits.

In addition to the above featured smooshing technique, I find Classic Stampin' Pads are equally as versatile in blending projects in which I exclusively used Ranger Distressed Inks in the past.

Global Design Project #GDP086 Sketch Challenge

Lovely Inside & Out
Sneak Peek

I am joining the Global Design Project with a new sketch challenge. This project went through a few changes before ending with the shaker card you see above.

I will share the process in a minute, but I wanted to say how excited I am with the new 2017-2018 Stampin' Up! Catalog! While I hooped and hollered about what I was losing in too many past blog posts, I did not take into account what I would be receiving in return! Wow! The new catalog is amazing! Part of my preorder has arrived and I am loving all the interesting and creative new products!

With that, I can jump into this weeks Global Design Project...

I first thought I would make the background in the sketch the focal point and came up with this card...

A little bit of painters tape and some blending of Calypso Coral, Bermuda Bay, and Pacific Point offered what turned out to be a Retro card. I could see this design decorating an 80's Skating Rink.

I blended the top colors on Whisper White Cardstock a bit darker on the top than the bottom for a little more interest.

I initially planned to create a card with a clear center using a window sheet, which is located under the sentiment. I had an issue and ended up having to cut down the entire front panel and instead, attached it to a panel of Very Vanilla cardstock. I will give my original plan another go later.

The sentiment, from the Window Shopping Stamp Set, was heat embossed using White Embossing Powder on Black Cardstock.  The focal panel was then adhered on an A2 sized panel of Pacific Point, which I embossed with the Seaside Embossing Folder.

I could have uploaded this card to this weeks challenge, but decided that I did not use the inspiration piece I had in mind well.

Inspiration Vase

So, I started again...

My second card pulled out the design out of the vase more completely, but then then I smudged the black splatter by mistake and that bothered me, but I completed the card and decided to give it another try.

This card was also blended using the same colors above. To the blended panel, I used Memento Black reinker and a paint brush to add the splatter. I also spritzed the blended panel with water and dabbed with a papertowel to cover up the water I accidently got on my project.

I did not want to lose too much of the background (even though
it did not end up exaxtly as planned), so  I cut a piece of Vellum down and White heat embossed an image from the very cool and new Lovely Inside & Out Stamp Set.

Popping up the the sentiment form the same stamp set finished the card front.

I also tried something on the inside, which I did not like and ended up blending a negative image die cut form the largest circle from the Layered Circle Framelits.

What developed next, ended up being a Step It Up card...

The uploaded photos do not do justice to the colors in any of the images above. They are more vibrant than the photos display.

The final project, went through a few changes and ended as a shaker card! I did cut the hugs from the Lovely Words Thinlits and added it to the Metallic Sequin Assortment, which I selected only the white, black, and clear circle shapes.

What is kind of cool, the die cut hugs and sequins get hung up on the heat embossed Vellum panel; and while I can shake them loose, they stay put even when standing up!

The frame was initially cut out of Whisper White Cardstock with the Layered Square Framelits, but I did not like the white. Next, I used my Pacific Point Classic Stampin' Pad to change the color, but I did not like that any better. Finally, I used a Memento Black Ink Pad and transformed the frame for a third time!

I had an image in my head, but it took more than one try to express my idea on paper, which took a few different turns during the process. Ultimately, I still want to return to the Retro Window card idea and see the final project still in my head! In the end, I did not destroy the not just right cards, but finished them anyway.

Does crafting go the same for you from time to time?
What do you think, which card do you prefer?

Maybe you will need to return to see that cool Retro card...
